Athletic Events, Attendance Policy

At home athletic events, the visiting team and game officials are our guests. Moreover, they are to be treated with respect at all times. Good sportsmanship is to be shown at all times. Misconduct at any of our athletic events may result in that student being barred from all future extra curricular activities (not just athletic events).

If a student is to achieve, he/she should attend school regularly. The state attendance law requires compulsory attendance until age 17. Students are required to attend classes after entering the school campus. Refer to Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) Code of Student Behavior for clarification.

Absences will be classified as excused or unexcused. Excused absences allow the student the privilege of making up work due to absenteeism. It is the student's responsibility to obtain and complete all the work assignments missed while absent.

Parents are required to send a note to the homeroom teacher explaining ALL absences and tardies on the first day the student returns to school. Extended absences will require a physicians’ note. It is both a state and local requirement that these statements are kept on file. If the written statement is not brought by the fourth day, the absence will be considered unexcused.

Out of town trips will be excused only in the case of an emergency or when it is for the purpose of education. The principal must approve absences of this nature before the trip is taken.

Unexcused Absences: Absences without valid cause will be regarded as unexcused. Students will not receive credit for missed assignments. For more information please refer to the current Montgomery Public Schools Code of Behavior.

Check-In procedures: Parents are to accompany their student to the office and provide a written excuse as to why the student is late. An excused or unexcused tardy slip will be issued. Late bus arrivals will be excused. Oversleeping or missing the bus is unexcused. After an admittance slip is given, the student will be allowed to go to his/her locker and report directly to his/her class.

Tardies to School:Students are dismissed in intervals in the mornings. The schedule is as follows:

Enter building

Grade Level

Tardy Bell

Students that arrive by car after their scheduled entry are to report to the office where an excused entry slip is given. If your child’s bus arrives after this time, he/she is to go to his/her locker and report directly to his/her current class. Any student who is roaming the hall will receive a referral for disobedience. Each teacher has a list of the buses scheduled time and a daily log is kept in the office.

Check-Out procedures: Early dismissals are discouraged, but if it is necessary for a student to leave during the day, arrangements should be made before leaving home and the procedure outlined below should be followed. If a student is to check out during the day, a parent or guardian must come in the office to sign out the student. Students will not be called for check out until the parent has arrived and identification has been checked. No student will be released to anyone whose name is not on the registration card. Persons wanting to check out a student must be prepared to show identification.
