Inclement weather, ISS

In case of inclement weather, please listen to local radio and television stations for school information for the Montgomery Public Schools System. If school must be dismissed due to bad weather, regular bus routes will be followed unless other information is given by the media.

Gifted students are those who perform at high levels in academic and/or creative fields when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment. These students require services not ordinarily provided by the regular school program. Students possessing these abilities can be found in all populations, across all economic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor.

A student may be referred for the gifted program by teachers, counselors, administrators, parents or guardians, peers, self, or other individuals with knowledge of the student's abilities. Additionally, all secondary students at traditional schools will be observed as potential gifted referrals.

The GW library is specialized to support the units of instruction in grades 6-8. Books, periodicals, software and Internet services, including several subscription sites are available for research on curriculum topics.

  • Loans: Regular loans are for two weeks with the privilege of two-week renewals. Reference books are not allowed to be checked out for overnight use. Do not check out a book for another student because you are then responsible for that material. Removing materials from the library without having checked them out is considered theft of school property.

Use of the Internet is restricted to those students who have a signed Acceptable Use Policy sheet on file. Improper use or accessing inappropriate areas on the Internet will result in disciplinary action.

  • Fines: Fines for regular loans are 5 cents per day exclusive of weekends and holidays. Payment for a lost book is based on its replacement cost. If a book is subsequently found, a refund will be made less the accumulated fine.

Students may rent a locker yearly for $5.00. They remain the property of the school and are subject to search if reasonable suspicion is given to believe prohibited materials are being concealed. Students are prohibited from swapping or sharing lockers. Students are expected to keep their lockers locked by the approved combination lock only. If a lock becomes incapable of locking, it is the student’s responsibility to notify the office immediately. The locker will be fixed or a new locker will be assigned. All lockers must be cleaned out on the last full week of school. Any remaining items will be disposed of. The school will not be responsible for any items students fail to remove from their lockers.

All items turned into lost and found will be kept in the office for approximately one week. Items not claimed will be donated to a charitable organization. If students suspect theft of property, reports should be made to the supervising teacher and security guard immediately. GW is not responsible for lost or stolen items at school or school-sponsored events.
